“The Modern Ink Cartridge - A Miracle Of Technology In Your Own Home”

We’re so reliant on the smooth operation of everyday technology that we hardly stop to think about what we demand of the average ink cartridge. Just consider this: most printers operate at a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch; the usual printed area on a sheet of A4 or letter size paper is at least seven inches wide. Do the math: an ink cartridge has to deliver over 2000 dots in less than a second each time the printer head crosses the page.

Nowadays a basic domestic printer can achieve the reproduction of a wide range of colors through the combination of different shades of ink. The technology required to deliver this output (and often a much higher standard of performance) is the result of enormous investment and research and development by the manufacturers of printers and ink jet cartridges.

The standard model of today’s color ink cartridge usually contains at least four separate shades of ink: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. But for more sophisticated applications, at least six colors have become the norm, as for example in some Epson ink cartridges. And now that we use printers at home as well as at work for fine art purposes and to preserve digital photographs, there are revolutionary new ink cartridges available to give a truly professional finish and resist fading from exposure to light.
